Senses Poem by Liane Carlo Suelan

Senses

Watch
As the moon above gleams in all its glory
Ever so serene, ever so silent
The still pond of starlight
Gently, ever so gently
Drifts its lilies of vapor onto the lone satellite
Pray the lilies not devour it completely
Lest the world be engulfed in darkness

Inhale
The coolness in the evening atmosphere
As though it were the only air left to breathe
Savor it as though it were serenity concretized into an inhalant
Into vapor, into breeze that would disappear in a matter of a second
Then hold your breath
And slowly let loose the woes of a bleak December eve
And breathe new life

Taste
The bitterness of a heart shattered after it had already been broken
Let it surge down your throat
And burn like the embers
Of the love letters set aflame in sacrifice
To the gods of future, past
And feel the aftertaste of bliss, sweet bliss
At the cost of a bitter tear

Touch
The youthful face of Spring
Of a new tomorrow
And feel your barren bones spring to life
Every foliage of every kind
Every flower of every kind
Feel the fragile petals upon your muscles and veins
And shed the painful memories of yesterday

Hear
The beating of two war drums
The stealthy marching of light drizzle
As your ears start to malfunction until it finally ceases to work
Then all you could do is

Listen
Listen to two heartbeats as chest is pressed against chest
Listen to two whispers of three overused words
Listen to the symphony of a rising orchestra much purer than a violin's song
Much gentler than a Moonlight Sonata
