September 11th, 2011 Poem by Jon M. Nelson

September 11th, 2011

After the planes crashed into the towers,
It was utter chaos for the following hours.
The buildings were burning and people dying,
We watched in horror as we all were crying.

What did we do to provoke this assault?
But then we wondered if it was really our fault.
So many volunteers rushed in to rescue strangers,
Without regard for safety and ignoring the dangers.

We watched in horror as those towers fell,
And everyone inside was going through hell.
So many innocent lives were lost that dreadful day,
And all we could do was watch in agony and pray.

Those responsible would soon feel the payback,
As we retaliated for this unprovoked attack.
We may not have started this war, but we were ready,
They may have shaken us up, but we stood rock steady.

Since that day we still have shed many tears.
It's hard to believe it has already been ten years.
Let us take the time to look back and remember,
All of those who were lost that day in September.
