Shackled Poem by Daniel Parker

Shackled

The chains that hang around me, so heavy and so cold,
The sense of disappointment lies within,
The memories that fill me, the thoughts of times of old,
The challenges of keeping feelings in,
It seemed like just a moment, when really it was years,
The time I lost with you, I can't regain,
I guess my strength has failed me, I've realised my fears,
And now the though of loss drives me insane,

In life we make decisions, mistakes and choices too,
Some of which are stupid, brash and wrong,
But this is what is needed, to grow, be something new,
It's how we shape our lives when we are young,
Yet now I sit and suffer, the scars grow ever deep,
It seems that one too many made me weak,
For I was once a proud man, no wounds would ever seep,
And now I'm just a poor and lonely freak.
