Shadow Man Poem by Ashley Fortin

Shadow Man

You killed a man yesterday and watched him pass away
You looked into his sad eyes and thought about today

You thought about the lonley sidewalk he decided to take that night
It was a short way home to his little girl he wanted just to see her sight

What a family man he was to be so loyal as to love them carlessly
He was something you never could be because of me

I looked over your shoulder as you pulled the triger ever so slowly
And laughed while you were driven by me only

I've always been that black shadow that followed you in the sunlight
I'm that shadow man who swallowed your soul in dark night

But now I'm alive and ready live my way
You'll give up your job and lovley life just to walk my way

And so you killed that man yesterday and watched him pass away
You never buried him properly you simply let him lay

He'll stay there for a while as the days turn into nights
And finally when he goes away we'll pick another helpless fight

Maybe it'll be that woman working in the flower gardens
Or maybe the Mr. who works in the dairy isle filling out milk cartins

But maybe thats to easy for a monster just like me?
Maybe we should see what fun we'd have going for your family?

You've got a little boy and a lovley wife...
How's a go Mr. man I know how to use that knife

And maybe when we're finished you'll scream for your sanity
But when you get a hold of yourself you'll see your real vanity

This man will never sleep again
Too scared to dream of their pain

So if you want to live freely you'd better listen close
Cause when that shadow man of your wants a dose

You better tell him I've got a family waiting for me today
A life I'm waiting to go fulfill and some bills I've got to pay

Cause if you tell him you've got time
You might just lose your mind.
