She Builds Character Poem by Erika Mohr

She Builds Character

I walk a thin line of white and black,
But courage and strength are qualities I do not lack
If I have to walk this shade of grey alone,
I will do it with my head held high and a back of stone.
Love, Faith, Courage, Strength, Hope
My mother taught me, no matter what the case, I needed to cope.
She taught me how to stand strong,
And how to admit when I was wrong.
Lessons of life were happening every day,
She taught me, no matter how bad it got, to never back away.
“If you put your mind to it, you can do anything” is what she does say,
She made sure that my own opinions and voice would never sway.
She wanted me to grow up strong, and never have to lean on someone
While growing up she built my character tough like her own
And now that character building is done and what is left is me.
My mother is proud of the daughter she raised,
Even if I wouldn’t have become the strong, independent person I am today,
My mother would still be proud and show me that gleaming smile she does everyday
Although that thin line of white and black is getting greyer by the day,
I am strong enough to never stumble into that darkish grey
And I think my mother knew that I might come to this point sometime in my life,
And that is why she raised me this way.
Strong, Confident, Courageous and Wise (but still learning)
