She Could Not Be Happier Poem by Leonard McGee

She Could Not Be Happier

She gave me a reason to mean I love you,
a reason to be there for her, by her side,
on her mind, in her heart constantly, with
my thoughts, with my time, my actions,
and emotions holding her, touching her,
listening, caring, sharing, protecting, and
understanding love is the little things
stitched together with hope on faith
by trust to reach for a better tomorrow morning
regardless of last night everyday to do the
things words cannot say loud enough
to make her feel safer, to dry her tears faster,
to calm her nerves longer, or touch her soul warmer

I gave her fear, worry, doubt, shame, confusion
and miscommunications to make her shoulders
colder and her tongue hotter as tempers flare,
as money gets tight, as infatuation succumbs to the
reality of cooking, cleaning, parenting and working
24 hours a day 7 days a week without the luxuries
of selfishness, freedom, independence, deceit,
vanity or self righteousness in a mist of anger,
jealousy, contempt, and resentment stressed by
responsibilities for, obligations to, and expectations
of others, and she could not be happier
