She Dearly Did Wish Poem by Francis Duggan

She Dearly Did Wish

She dearly did wish for to become his wife
And to him be true for the rest of her life
And with him raise their children and with him grow old and gray
She was looking forward to their wedding day

Though he called her his honey and beautifulrose
She wondered why marriage to her he did not propose
Though he often did hint to her one day they would be wed
On their passionate intimate moments in bed

To be loved by such a handsome man she felt lucky indeed
After three months of living together she carried his seed
But he was not with her when she gave birth to their baby boy
Love as is often said is not all joy

She is left to raise her child on her own
That he was already married with twoyoung daughters she had not known
Tied to motherly duties she now does realize
That from love's disappointment one does become wise

She pushes her son's pram on the park pathhway
Life has it's blessings and disappointments one might say
An attractive brown haired woman in her early twenties to motherhood tied
But she loves her baby son and she has time onher side.
