She Takes A Day Off Poem by Paul Brookes

She Takes A Day Off

'Sorry.' said the Muse
'due to circumstances beyond my control
I shall be unable to attend today.'

'after all.' she says looking at my sceptical stare
'I have many clients.'

I wonder I think as I stab the paper with force
breaking the pencil what the hells going on.
yesterday I formed such genius poems in my head
and now all have flown the dawn.

after all I say to no one in particular,
for the Muse has taken a jet to the US,
after all we all think our poems are the right stuff,
the knees of bees or the ant antenna.

no beetling beetles for me.

now that the dusts settles and the sun shines,
I wonder is it any wonder why.
wondering if wonderful will ever strike
wondering if its actually worth wondering.

perhaps after a cup of tea I think.....
wandering and wondering off to the kitchen.
I guess all bets are off.
