She Walked In Beauty Like The Evening Poem by James Fredenburg

She Walked In Beauty Like The Evening

On a warm summer evening
we walked up the street together
and you were wistfully unaware
of just how beautiful you looked.

Was it your latest hairstyle
whimsically framing your dimples
or your country summer dress
so lightweight I couldn't look away?

You were a poem come to life
written in a simple free verse
a masterpiece previously undiscovered
watercolor in the pastels of sunset.

I was already completely lost in love
helpless before your innocent charms
so I held your hand in tender silence
singing songs of forever in my heart.
