Shelter Poem by Mark Nichols

Shelter

If the world is coming to an end, and it's
Too far gone to mend
And no amount of duck and cover
Will save mankind from one another
I know what I'll do
At least I'll be with you
We'll find a hidden bunker
Where we can hug and hunker
Don't need supplies
Just to stare into each other's eyes
Til the sun goes down
And the moon goes round
And a hot hell hovers
Then the earth freezes over
And and we live under the aether
Between limbo, hell or neither
And the door to the portal we can't go through
For an hour or a lifetime or two
Our children will be skinny
And the food is tasty but tinny
But
At least I'll be together with you
