Short And - - - - - Poem by Barry Van Allen

Short And - - - - -

Rating: 5.0

Just past your nose,
is everything you're missing,
- - - at least within some inches.

Just beyond your head,
is all that is required,
- - - in fact - - - inside it,
should be all you'll ever need,
... to know of life.

Your parents told you everything,
it's not their fault you didn't listen,
- - - young and stupid has it's virtues,
but, I swear to you ...
I can't remember what they were !

Of course, you know that now.

Many things about life I have learned on my own. They were those things that my parents tried to protect me from. My parents wanted for me, pretty much what all parents want...they wanted me to be safe, happy and marry rich. They didn't tell me that there were atrocities in life, that I would come to know...intimately...they neglected to mention pain and suffering...hardship and agony. In the end...it doesn't really matter much...I learned about it on my own...and I in turn want what all parents want for their kids...I want them to be safe, healthy and happy...I've given up on the thought of marry rich...there are no guarantees with life! Hugs, Dee

Yes, we always try to help our children avoid painful and unpleasant experiences, but in their defense, they need to have their OWN experiences in order to learn the lessons of life. I always say the most difficult lessons are the best teachers. Not that we wouldn't love to avoid all the unnecessary grief, but I think it's part of life and growing into responsible adults. Nice perspective here, BVA. Linda :)
