Shower Mercy Upon Rafah Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Palestinians are the offspring of their unity
they are the saplings of their generation
they are everywhere and they will re-grow;
even if they perish, their descendants will re-surface
as they are stalks of the same tree,
as they are their branches and the leaves
as they are their fruits and the seeds
of that same tree of their unity;

they will re-generate and hold solidarity
as Palestinians, they will search for their motherland;
they will live and die for their identity;
no one will be able to extinguish their patriotism
it will live in their hearts forever
although many may perish
in the gunfire and explosions in Gaza now;
but for the rest of them
the thirst for their homeland will linger on silently;

Palestine is also a nation of people
and they seek no jewels nor thrones;
food and shelter is all humanity ever needs,
peace and harmony is an undeniable right indeed;
so, show mercy and shower peace upon them
so that life goes on on this planet
with due respect for humanity in Gaza
and for the benefit of global peace.
