Sickness & Death Poem by Brandy Diaz

Sickness & Death

I saw you lying there.
And all I could do was cry and stare.
You were always so beautiful, but by the time I saw you,
you were slightly yellow and screaming in pain.

I never wanted to see you this way but I had to be by your side.
Seeing you lie there struggling for breath made me want to leave,
but I knew that would be the last time I would ever see you again,
so I stayed.

As your last breath left your lungs,
you told me you were sorry that you were going to leave me alone.
But you left behind something far more beautiful and sweet.
The knowledge of knowing you.
