Rites are performed without knowing
For what purpose it is performed.
It is most prominent in the rituals
Followed in marriages and funerals.

Rites bear no meaning, no utility
And yet observed with utmost sanctity.
The conductor is given importance.
Time and money are willingly wasted.

Rites are an identity carrier.
It is a history performer as well.
Which race, which faith, which creed or which culture
It represents can well be traced down.

The birth of the rites are formalities.
Today's formality is tomorrow's rites.
Rites that lost meaning are superstitious.
We lit candles to statues in daylight.
