Silence Is A Difficult Answer Poem by Shalom Freedman

Silence Is A Difficult Answer

SILENCE IS A DIFFICULT ANSWER

Silence is a difficult answer
Meaningless is hard to take
Living in one's own self-imposed passivity
A recipe for despair-

Perhaps then
For personal health reasons only

Mediocre lines
Are better than none at all

Better a poor poet
Than a suffering nothingness

Better a too-literal transcriber of weak lines
