Silence, Like In A Vacuum. Poem by Deluke Muwanigwa

Silence, Like In A Vacuum.

Silence, Like In A Vacuum.

The moon is moving away from the earth
barely perceptibly
the impact being the day,
some year some day
will become twenty five hours long
The stealthy migration of the moon away
causing the spin of the earth to slow down imperceptibly
but significantly.

If masses of cosmic proportion never stay the same
our earth getting warmer on average
the moon bidding us goodbye
the tilt of the earth changing
who am I to want things to remain the same?
who are you to want a perpetual advantage?
to be the chosen one?

It is sad to think about it
but one day, the sounds of birds,
the roar of the ocean tide
the flash of lightning bolts
and the guttural roar of thunder
will be replaced with silence

The hustle and bustle of humanity
some lobbying missiles at each other today
brother fighting brother
will be replaced by silence
just like in a vacuum
