Sinking Between The Covers Poem by Charlotte Amélie

Sinking Between The Covers

Can you see the glistening fire in my eyes?
Stripping my skin, gnawing at my bones
Consuming, scalding, blistering
Rendering only ashes, ashes.

Can you perceive the hint of winter in the air?
Bitter memories fluttering by
Old letters and recent wounds
Perfume that lingers long after you are gone.

Can you feel the velvet lies?
Soft hiss of passionate words
Carresing the ribs, kissing the neck
Crushing until there's no air left.

Can you hear the muffled clock?
Beating against thick walls of bricks
Galloping through the crimson swamps of my chest
Trying to reach the infinitesimal light.

Can you let me slip away from your grip?
Slidding through the cracks of the past
To rest between the dusty hats, the hurtful cries.

Yet I see you already have.
