Sleep Poem by Michaelpoetry Ryan

Sleep

She said, "Save the moonlight that fills your heart and keep it for eternity;

smile when you think of the day and the night you would return to me."

I sent a prayer into the wind and hoped that it would fly

across the land and into her hand on such a love-filled night.

I drew a breath and closed my eyes as peaceful slumber came

and moonlit nights in love's delight sung their sweet refrains.

To sleep beside a love like hers was heaven sent to earth

and given to the prince of dreams the morning of his birth.

When came the dawn in fiery hope, my vision was complete.

I rose and stood before our bed and kissed the bottom of her feet.
