Sliabh Luachra Poem by Francis Duggan

Sliabh Luachra

Sliabh Luachra an old place of musician and poet
And old gaelic singers and others of note
From the Cork-Kerry border mountain Countryside
It's name and it's fame it has spread far and wide.

Far from Caherbarnagh, Gortavehy and the Paps of Shrone
Where the bracken grows around the rock and the stone
Sliabh Luachra for it's talented people well known
Traditional musicians and singers and poets it can claim as it's own.

Sliabh Luachra that borders Duhallow known far from Erin's shore
In the mountainy countryside around old Rathmore
Lived great poets and singers and musicians in decades long gone
Though now with the departed their legends live on.

Sliabh Luachra with strong links to a cultural past
But nothing in life ever does seem to last
And though in Nature's dark bosom their bones forever lay
Far from the old hills they are remembered today.
