Slurred... - Poem by Meghan

it rips my heart to see
you hurt yourself
you have such a
beautiful mind
it's hard for me to understand
I know it makes you angry too
that you cannot control it
and everytime my love
I want to help
you seem to be ashamed

the loss of your own independence
could not spring you back
to the days of childhood
and tampered innocence

alcohol numbs the brain
memories refrain
but the damage is sustained
