Smile... Again Poem by Saptarshi Sarkar

Smile... Again

Rating: 3.5

What is it in life, my friend, that makes you smile?
What apart from joy and glee and gaiety all around?
What else than those moments of elation and triumph?
What more, do you think, brings to you this desire abound?

Why do you always look only for things mere material?
Why do you believe your heart finds pleasure only in events discernible?
Agreed, your eyes wish to view only that is ever so apparent
But is it really that blind to those that are not, those intangible?

Away from all these pleasures you so commonly associate
veiled under the garb of invisibility you so often bear
lies a hidden joy, this feeling so august it really does elevate
when you realize your joy emanates from the joy of others, far and near.

Happiness is in sharing one's joy with another, my friend
As it is in being the soothing balm for someone in need
And once we realize the reward, the fulfilment that lies in store
It is here that we allow humanity to prosper, compassion to breed.

So, my friend, my brother, open your heart to all,
Come, let's pledge to make someone else happy again
For then you know where true comfort had always been
In smiling when others smile with you, without any essence of sorrow or pain!
