Smiles And Tears Poem by Mohabeer Beeharry

Smiles And Tears

Smile is life.
And life is holy, the munificence of the Lord.
Real or not it is the transcendental reason
for the flourish of this universe.

So when life thrives,
Flowers bloom
Hills and mountains shiver with green exuberance,
Sounds of warbling fill the air,

Trees rejoice with weights of fruits.
Innocent, children play, thrill and laugh.
Fields explode with abundance
Humanity is as happy as God wants him to be.

There comes a time though when this dream is shattered
And the smile freezes into terror.
Aghast, humanity stand still,
Tears flow
And fears and wastelands claim the fields of human life.

At night we pray for the sun of hope to rise,
To be free from nightmares and uncertainty,

From one room to the other, I tread
Drying the tears from the eyes of my children's feverish sleep.
And I run out of comfort,
My arms full,
My heart cold and dry, I wrestle to keep my sanity.

I stand alone, the windows forbidden.
Eerie!
There is an enemy outside.
I can sense it,
But I cannot see it,
It smells of the grave, invisible and invincible.

In the dark the tender smile on my young daughter's lips
Is like a sunrise,
It lights my heart
And I break into chants of courage
And hope,
I let myself go down on my knees
And pray.

No one lives for nothing.
And no one dies for nothing.
This is not a cursed place.
Made from the subtle wheel of God's own spinner hands
From where humanity once rose and grew up.

Where the wicked atones for his wrongdoing
And good is rewarded!
Where at dawn and dusk, vespersbless the cool evening air
From desert to towns
From temple to churches.

If God's willing, Iwill live,
And again the smiles shall light the valleys and the hills
Ways will open!
Strength will again grace the majesty of this place,
I will certainly not run before the rage of some frenzied evil!
