Snowscape Sights And Scenes Poem by Deanna Samuels

Snowscape Sights And Scenes

The sun was shining, glittering upon the hectares of snowscape as far as the eye could see
A new fall of snow the day before, the softest, fluffiest flakes that could be imagined
Gave a sparkle, a fresh whiteness to the whole horizon
Barely a breath of wind to disturb the serenity of the scene
Fir trees bent low, their pine needled full fronds heavy with the burden of fresh snow
Wintering trees harbor a layer of thick flakes on their naked trunks and boughs
Horses standing still and forlorn, almost as statues, the field around frozen and cold
Stubbles of last year's crop stumps barely visible from under the snowy blanket
Roadside edges piled high with newly plowed snow, no way to walk or climb over
Rooftops heavily laden with this newly fallen white fluffy coverlet
Various lengths of smooth icicles dangerously hanging from eaves
Mansions hidden deep within woods and forest, camouflaged into the wintry scene
Many tucked snugly besides a frozen lake, others draping across small undulating hillocks
Their private paths and driveways untouched by human footstep
Snow covered road signs warning of slippery conditions, take extra care to drive
A ski resort, skiers on the slopes and runs, well wrapped in warm winter clothing
Building sites hardly discernible under a thick layer of the newly fallen fluffy white
Local shops and stores and small strip mall footpaths already slushy and messy underfoot
Riding back into town, the traffic chaos has its own itinerary
The scenes and snowscapes of the countryside, what a great respite to this city nightmare!
