So Close Poem by Michael Chau

So Close

There you were next to me,
Throughout the whole night.
Why didn't I try anything?
You were right there in my sight.

Though we were in a group,
I still think I should have tried.
If I had asked you to dance,
I'm sure everyone else wouldn't have mind.

You were just so beautiful,
I did not see this coming.
I never knew that
Your beauty was amazing.

Why did I not see this before?
Why did I not take the chance?
All I had to do was say,
'Hey, do you want to dance? '

I was waiting for a slow song.
But one never came on.
I guess I was looking for the perfect moment.
But I guess I waited too long.

Oh well, maybe next time.
Or maybe I'm just too late.
Is this just a coincidence,
Or was this, somehow, fate?

Either way,
I'll probably never get a chance.
To tell you what might have happened
At the dance.

I was so close,
And yet so far.
If I could,
I would wish on a star.

I would wish for a do over.
But that's not all.
I would wish for my chance,
Where I could stand real tall.

And ask you do dance,
That's all I wanted.
But now I'll do nothing,
And my dreams will be haunted.

Maybe our paths will cross someday
And then I'll get the chance.
Maybe it'll be at some party,
And I'll be able to ask you to dance.

Until then I'll just think about you,
From your head to your toes.
And the other thing I'll be thinking about
Is how I was so close.
