So... It Wasn'T A Date. Poem by Cain XXX

So... It Wasn'T A Date.

It was a date.
At some unearthly hour
When all was dead and still,
I snuck out to meet you.
[I absolutely insist that
9.30 in the morning is an unearthly hour
During the school holidays when
My siblings aren’t even awake then.
So there.]

We met at a small quiet room
Which the administration had
Most romantically and appropriately titled:
“The Study Room”,
In a desolate, deserted community centre where
We sat with our knees occasionally bumping into each other's
Whispering sweet nothings to each other.

You coyly, tenderly murmured into my ear that
The integration of the equation: 1 / [ x(x+1) ]
Was equivalent to: ln |x| - ln |x+1| + c,
'Where c, '
You breathe almost huskily,
'Is an arbitrary constant.'

In return, I gently, sweetly, responded that
the Special Economic Zones that Deng Xiao Ping implemented
Allowed for the liberalization of the Chinese economy in a
Controlled and organized manner,
'Thus, '
I lower my voice and lean in closer so I can breathe in your scent
'Bypassing the mistakes that Gorbachev had made,
When he was trying the same with the USSR.'

All day we sat there,
Pens every so often knocking into the other's.
It was just
You and Me
(and the Textbooks.)

That night, as I walked you home,
We giggled and gossiped about
Frivolous issues such as
The Affairs of Monopoly and Oligopoly and
Their scandalous engagement in Third-Degree Price Discrimination
By cruelly segmenting the pitiful, victimized Consumer Market and
Evilly plotting out schemes to 'Prevent the Resale of the Good'.
And when we parted that night,
I was thinking that
You were more beautiful
Than the Trigonal Bipyramidal structure of
My favourite molecule: the Sulphur Tetrafluoride

Alright, so it wasn't a date.
We didn't kiss or hold hands
Like they do in chic flicks
Or watch movies and star-gaze
Like they do in romance novels.

So, it wasn't a date.
But hey,
I would rather spend my entire life
Repeating this date which was not a date
Than truly go on a date
With anybody else but you.

excellent work. I really like how naturally it flows from line to line as well as the touching message you built it around.
