So Long To The Church Poem by Randy McClave

So Long To The Church

Today, I said so long to my church
And so long to my friends as well,
Hopefully one day we will all meet once again
With wondrous stories to tell.
I attended the church for 5 happy years
We shared the same scriptures and bread,
I will sorely miss them one and all
Truly though, we were really family instead.
I say goodbye to Linda and Bambi
Also to Pastor Pete and his wife Hope,
Goodbye I say to Richard, Ed and Peggy
And goodbye to Andy hoping without us he will cope.
Goodbye I say to Wilson, Gabe and Emmy
So long I say to Carolyn, Imogene and George,
Goodbye I say to Barbara, Vicki, Sandy and Dinah
A great friendship we all did forge.
Today I said goodbye to my church
Today we all sang our very last hymn there,
I listened to my Pastor preach for the last time
And together under the same roof we said our last prayer.
As I leave the church's door
Knowing probably I will never step inside there ever again,
I will not miss the structure itself
But, I will miss the congregation of the women and men.
As I shake off the dust on my shoes
As I look for a new church to attend,
I hope soon to find a new church to call my home
Now I wait and wait to see were my feet God will send.
