Solace Poem by Michael Loring

Solace

Life stinks
we all know it
a fact we can’t avoid

My life
isn’t one to appease said fact
it’s really hard
to keep myself intact
when things heat up
I’ll feel like crying
like a scared baby pup

Life brings stress
always building up
making it harder to dress

Waking in the middle of the night
memories so fresh
bringing back my childhood fright

But you vanquish my fears
with your soft voice
stopping my inner tears

You stormed into my life
so easily erasing
my violent inner strife

I thought no one would ever care
but you stood me wrong
with love you wanted to share
I almost wanted to stare
in awe and shock

Life isn’t so fearful
when you’re around
only cheerful
and happy
though I do fear
you’ve made me kinda sappy

I’ve taken Solace in you
my shelter from the harsh workings of the world

I really have much to say
but I’ll keep myself at bay
so I can just sit
with you in my arms
letting the world disappear

It’s just you and me now
just what I wanted

Let me hear your voice
only your voice
so soft and delicate
soothing me
letting me take in the thing that most people long for

Solace.
