Somewhere Town Poem by Francis Duggan

Somewhere Town

The by road off of the highway it winds on up and down
Along the mountain valley that leads to Somewhere Town
A narrow and twisty roadway that test your driving skill
Up through the old brown valley and by the stony hill.

You reach the Town of Somewhere an hour before nightfall
It looks more like a Village for a Town it does seem small
As you walk into the bar-room the patrons at you stare
They view you with suspicion the fellow from elsewhere.

For you there's little welcome for to make you want to stay
You finish your beer quickly and drive down the roadway
Out of the Town of Somewhere vowing to yourself you won't be back
To Somewhere miles from anywhere for as long as coal is black

Of your brief stop at Somewhere fond memories won't remain
The people there unfriendly you won't stop there again
A bigger Town awaits you where people say hello
Where they do not treat you with suspicion though you they do not know.
