The night comes; my soul awakes
To the shining light above.
A sweet song the heaven makes,
And my spirit bathes in love.
So in ev'ry twinkling star
My heart feels a distant kin
And I find where'er you are,
For a place there hunger men.
Flaming spark inside my soul
Lights my heart and shows the way
To that warm but distant goal
Where there is unceasing day.
Ever longing is my heart,
Ever onward go my feet
Till I find my splintered part,
Till my passion there I meet.
There my passion, here my pain
When my love is far away.
Rent asunder, this my bane:
Shall my love come back to stay?
Shining suns, sweet music make;
I will listen, I will heed
Lonely siren-song I take
Vibrant beauty, cold its creed.
Spurning man and petty care,
Longing, watch the land of fair.
