Song: The Day Poem by Dave SmithWhite

Song: The Day

So whatever happened on 9/11?
Were they all raptured straight to heaven?
What really happened to Building Seven?
The day when logic died.
The day when someone lied!

So whatever happened to fearless enquiry?
Where blame is assigned to a given 'a-priori'.
Whatever happened to the much vaunted press,
Now that it's devolved to a modernist mess?

But then they say, I'm become demented.
Of unsound mind, somewhat fermented.
But I know, I've not assented,
To their versions of the truth,
For which there is no proof,
While all else remain aloof,
To the jarring facts of sleuth;
And call dissent uncouth, in sooth,
By the entitled surly, bawling youth,
Who brawl with raw, claw and tooth,
Like punks from old Duluth.
Like drunks on cheap vermouth.

So whatever happened to President Kennedy?
Who planned his last journey to Arlington Cemetary?
Who was his foe? Who were his enemies?
The day their stocks went high.
The day of the spook and spy.
The day we wonder why;
What caused the world to go awry.

So whatever happened to Senator Kennedy?
Shot down in his triumph in the confusion of destiny.
Was Sirhan the pretender he still claims to be,
Not to remember that grim moment of his own history?
The day that went cockeyed.
The day like a Jeckyl and Hyde.
The day when thousands cried.
The day from which we run and hide.
The day we're told we must abide.

But then, they say, that I am crazy;
Senses shot and memory hazy.
But my thinking's not as lazy,
As all who will not see.
As all who cannot see,
That day of shocked and wounded pride,
Of martyred heroes, deified.
A day when millions wept, denied
That day of days that still divides.
When treason shills a stiff bromide,
To the legion theories, amplified.
The day that somehow changed all sides.
That day when reason slips and slides.
The day when all logic died.
That day when someone lied!
