Sonnet-God, Show Me A Better Place Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet-God, Show Me A Better Place

How long must I suffer ignominy?
Why should I be a slave in my own land?
How can I run away God, fetterly?
Do I deserve this kind of reprimand?

I want to move away but how can I?
I'm bound by time and fate and poverty;
Sometimes, I think 'twere much better to die;
The righteous ones are dressed in calumny.

New opportunities knock at my door;
I want to leave this wretched place but can't;
Adversities keep coming-all the more;
I wish to seek a much more peaceful jaunt.

0 Lord, I can't bear all this anymore!
My heart is broken and my eyes are sore.
