Sonnet: My Only Wish Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: My Only Wish

I want to lead an honest life divine;
Rewards, awards, God gives me in course due;
I work for glory that is God’s, not mine;
His Book of Life records all things I do.

To live a life of sinfulness is shame;
What use are earthly lucre, wealth and fame?
God will engrave in gold, my name;
To walk in righteousness is just my aim.

Trials and battles are part of life’s game;
God chalks my acts of goodness though I’m bad;
He does all things with love to make me glad;
For all misdeeds, my heart must take the blame.

God help me eke my livelihood aright;
I am your child who ought to walk in Light.
