Sonnet: My Thoughts Of Thee Poem by Rory Hudson

Sonnet: My Thoughts Of Thee

In thankless days in my unheated room
It often happens that I think of thee
To bring some light to penetrate the gloom
That spreads its heavy blanket over me.
It’s not for want of knowing all the hurt
That is the human race’s tragic fate
Whenever man and woman would convert
Their fleeting lust to be forever great -
In spite of this my thoughts may roam
To dream of your unsullied eyes
Which make within your innocence their home
And shine their love through all life’s horrid lies.
So with these thoughts my joy shall rise up strong
And cleanse my world of all its hateful wrong.
