Sonnet: On Studying Abroad Poem by Dr John Celes

Sonnet: On Studying Abroad

Well, go abroad to study higher up;
To learn, you cross all frontiers and all seas;
To gain more knowledge, gulp from bitter cup;
To up your ken, you ought to work like bees.

Yes, opportunities abroad are good
To further skills and train in every sphere;
To learn in one’s own motherland, one could
As cost of training elsewhere is quite dear.

You have a duty to your fellow-men;
Your nation needs all services from you;
Return to homeland therefore, share your ken;
This is the greatest sacrifice, you do.

To learn abroad is OK if you can;
But treat your nation’s patients poor too, man!
