Sonnet XVII - What Does The Rose In All Her Glory Know
What does the rose in all her glory know
When winters chill descends upon the earth
As deep she lies beneath the tempered snow
In darkness fixed, awaiting her rebirth
Her petals furled, unborn and yet to bloom
She sleeps until the sun climbs high above
To set her free from winter's raging gloom
Endowing her with soft unblemished love
She knows that waiting long in winter's night
Will pass when surely all the season dies
And thus when'er the sun shines ever bright
His warmth will stir the ground wherein she lies
………… The sleeping rose shall rise with summer's dawn
…………. Once more her heart and soul to be reborn
