Sonnet Xx - How Sweet Thou Art Upon The Swaying Bough Poem by Valerie Dohren

Sonnet Xx - How Sweet Thou Art Upon The Swaying Bough

Sonnet XX - How Sweet Thou Art Upon The Swaying Bough

How sweet thou art upon the swaying bough
Enrapt'ring those beneath who hear thy song
With joyful trill thou all the world endow
Thy melody enchanting all day long
Such melancholy days that are yet borne
Shall melt upon the hearing of thy strain
We wait until the coming of the dawn
To hear thy voice yet mingling with the rain
Oh how I yearn to see thy countenance
With feathered wings and softly coloured form
Upon the bough to warble and to dance
And not be troubled by each coming storm
………… Oh little bird, I wouldst for'er decree
………… Such freedom and such joy as on that tree
