Sonnet Xxviii - What Malady Is This Upon My Heart Poem by Valerie Dohren

Sonnet Xxviii - What Malady Is This Upon My Heart

What malady is this upon my heart
I fear I shall expire before the eve
That from this earth I then shall so depart
Though I am not yet ready so to leave
What malady should set me all aflame
With fevered brow and heart that beats so fast
And takes my breath when'er I hear thy name
How long will this affliction ever last
Oh how I wish that you were by my side
A vigil o'er my aching heart to keep
Forever be my comfort, and abide
Within my chamber where I languish deep
………… If love so fills the heart with such dismay
………… I pray that you stay with me day on day
