Soothing Hymns Poem by Ndina Kamaro Muofhe

Soothing Hymns

Systematic story come in songs sung
By souls whose spirits are burdened by the rejection
Traded their time to lay foundations of house they dreamt to build
So, in tunes and rhythms they sing to appease the deep bladed
Sadness written in lyrics vented
You can tell it hurts deep when it heals

Time wrote these painful songs
Their strengths, and quoded minds built fortresses
To book places for their offspring to dwell in calmness
But prayers sent to beliefs which rejected them in times,
Hit to bounce back to their dry lips and swollen knees

Before the face of such a terror, the fragile loose grip of their essence
When the same hand that slapped them in curse offers help,
The mirage of a piece pipe, appears
Who picked to smoke, get swallowed deep in the ungrateful sea
Which its rage brewed the fallen day's gluttonous waves

We sing
To heal
Bells ring
To awaken souls' appeal
Buried in distorted scripts about us
By the whipper who later befriended us
And sing truce and love
For us to sing along
