Sorry Poem by Absara Ghiorghis

Sorry

I will say I'm sorry
when the sun begins to grin,
when the clouds whisper a story,
the wind flies me around the world.

I will say I'm sorry
when criminals disappear into the golden gates in the sky,
when hunger is a memory on a page in a dusty book,
when all people have mansions and are prosperous.

I will say I'm sorry
when men bear children in their bellies,
when women are monarchs of the Middle East
when every child is wanted and loved.

I will say I'm sorry
when pebbles turn into golden nuggets,
when it rains sparkling diamonds,
when snow tastes like vanilla ice cream.

I will say I'm sorry
when I see or hear something genuine,
when you hear the words in my voice,
when you finally tell the truth.

I will say I'm sorry
only when,
and if,
you do.
