Speak Heart Poem by Rosanna Miller

Speak Heart

I invite my heart to speak
What will it tell me?
It feels closed to anything warm
So this may take some time...

Tangible discomfort with shut off valves
These heartstrings are stretched out
Cavernous emptiness echoes
A chilling loneliness in my soul.

Unable to speak out, silently screaming
Voiceless for fear of consequence
Conscious capitulation and decapitation
So that I do not have to change my life.

I wish that my heart would sing
Or at least sign with makaton
Its desires, wishes and needs
So that I can trust and speak out.
