Special Pair! Poem by Denis Martindale

Special Pair!

The two white tiger cubs looked grand
In blue, and black and white,
Within the frame I held by hand,
A picture of delight.
In wondrous detail to behold
If never seen before,
A miracle, as good as gold,
That I could not ignore.

Within this canvas, I held close
Their eyes were dazzling blue,
Such that my wonder grows and grows,
As this was something new.
And were their black-and-white coats wise?
I thought of these as strange.
I knew that tigers had brown eyes,
So why this sudden change?

I hoped white tigers prospered still,
Beyond these changes seen,
Like others, I have felt a thrill,
Beyond what's always been.
The Bengal tigers, gold and brown,
Are wondrous to behold,
And yet white tigers take the crown,
In beauty, truth be told!
