Spiders In The Web Poem by Abdullahi Suleiman Otiwe

Spiders In The Web

The waves arrive swimming in pool
Every night is a day and each day night
Down in this countryside, a new dawn
Each second in this trapping cords
We are caught in the silken web with trepidation
And we thought everything old was past
But stuck to this invisible cords. Unknown.
Contemplating between modernity and innovation
And the gold age in our unsmiling faces
We thought everything old was past
Yet like a chameleon, the spiders swing
Confused between going and the coming
Between distant silks in the nears
As we live with known strangers unknown
Sleeping each day on those silent mats
But for each other, some fingers crossed
Identity masked
We are here with our ghosts in the web
Perhaps to trap the flies in the wind
All in our callous quests for fetal hell
Give us all those cowries in Bitcoins
And let the Whitemen run mad oversea
Let them die from the debt they didn't owe
For us is a vengeance for our ancestors
Those tortured by Lord Lugard in Lokoja
We are spiders in this undisturbed web
To our nation we made a pledge
In exchange for her bilateral bonds
Her banks, highways are now free
Especially in the night, you can now travel
