Stands To Reason? Poem by Kevin Patrick

Stands To Reason?

Rating: 5.0

I've never seen reason stand
I've seen it strapped down as ignorance runs
Passing past logic and sensible thought
Until crashing head first in self indignition
As a victim of creeds and emotional convictions

If anything stands it's not reason
It lays bind to a post feathered and tarred
Stripped of its faculties, broken and beating
As the well groomed mob, stands by to watch.
Pulling the wool from under their eyes

Just like monkeys
Never, speaking, never hearing, never seeing
Only seething, in their believing
Changing the facts to suit their attacks
Putting a torch to thoughtful discourse
Only engaged in their well fueled rage.

Where can reason stand
When ideologies rise
And cast their shadows over
man's primal tribal mind
