Stay Thou, Oh Spring Poem by James Walter Orr

Stay Thou, Oh Spring

She grows like the perfect flower of the spring.
I try to breathe the scent of her body within my nostrils,
And in my imagination, I am drugged by the power of
That sweet, musky scent.

Her poetry draws my attention, makes my soul sing,
And the look in her eyes and the curve of her lip,
So sensuous beneath a perfect nose
Makes me hunger for the slightest sip.

She speaks with a wisdom and depth of feeling
That far exceeds her years, but yet,
You can see that wisdom shining from her eyes
With heaven's own glow.

Oh beautiful flower, emerging on this spring morning:
How did you fill my nights with restless dreams?
How can the feel of your skin, and the fragrance of your body
Fade into a dream and trickle through my fingers?

For a moment, the balm of your beauty and your being
Can soothe the pain of the scars on my soul and in my heart,
And allay the awful loneliness of a man who seeks
That which your image and your soul display.
