Stone Swallowers Poem by fraidoon warasta

Stone Swallowers

stone swallowers
it's easier to swallow stones
or step on a rattlesnake
or pull a lion's tail
than seeing
someone stealing your voice

soon we would willingly build
our own cages with our own selected notions
we would keep
for entertainment
only a pair of the extinct animals
and we would be given a heavy dose of luxuriousness

big boys on the other hand
would celebrate their failure on mars
on the inky floors
with their barren women
with pebbles on their tables
with no cocktail and sunshine
