Straight Ahead (Aka City At Our Backs) Poem by Robert Mahoney

Straight Ahead (Aka City At Our Backs)

It's late at night
And the streets are empty
Save for you and I
Speeding down the highway
At ninety-five
Music loud and the top is down
We're so alive
As we leave it all behind

Eyes straight ahead no looking back there
Drive all night though we still don't know where
But it feels so right with the wind in our hair
City at our backs and life has just begun
Pedal to the metal, we stop for no one

The dawn's first light
Breaks upon the horizon
With the new sunrise
Speeding towards tomorrow
With eyes alight
We are well on our way
To a new life
As we leave the rest behind

Eyes straight ahead no looking back there
Drive all night though we still don't know where
But it feels so right with the wind in our hair
City at our backs and life has just begun
Pedal to the metal, we stop for no one

Take the wheel and make your own way
Watch your worries disappear
We're in control of our lives today
No more holding back from fear
Live it up with the wind on your face
And the music playing loud

Eyes straight ahead no looking back there
Drive all night though we still don't know where
But it feels so right with the wind in our hair
City at our backs and life has just begun
Pedal to the metal, we stop for no one
Pedal to the metal, drive straight to freedom
