Strawberry Fields Poem by Myrtle Thomas

Strawberry Fields

Strawberry Fields

Tend the strawberry fields today
and eat the fruit, drink your sweet wine
care for the tender sprouts while their young
sweat and bleed with honesty
and rejoice in the latter reign

The white blooms of early spring
have birthed a bounty, for the harvest.
Rest and plan for today as tomorrow
might leave you behind
for the day and night have no memory to hold you
the fields are laden with fruit ripe and ready

The wine glass is empty, for we tasted
the richness of our work
and ate the pleasure of our labor

Today is passing for the sun is going down

The moonlight takes our breath away
and there is nothing left but the vastness of the dark.

' Don't put off until tomorrow the things you should do today.'
