Summer Is Coming. Poem by Warren Brown

Summer Is Coming.

Rating: 3.5

The Sun is rising earlier now, much earlier than before
Wasn't long ago it wasn't up, just an eastern glow.
The days are getting longer and summer is in store
Won't be long, long pants will go, white legs will show.

Every morn, the Sun moves further south across the hilltops
The Southern Cross is moving too, its rather unfamiliar
In the predawn light its fading fast and its way off to the South
And all the clocks in "Mexico" have gained an hour!

Oh, to be a "Mexican" and get up in the dark
To stub your toe on a toy left on the floor
Don't have these difficulties up here above the border line
The sun comes up and the sun goes down, on time, just like it always has!

We don't have to worry about our curtains going yellow
Or the problem of the cows withholding their milk
Life in Queensland is secure and ordered my friend
Premier Pete, he sees to that!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
"Mexicans" are those poor souls who live south of the Queensland border and if you're a "Welshman" (native of NSW) well, the are other, worse, Mexicans south of their border!
