Sun Worshippers! Poem by Denis Martindale

Sun Worshippers!

Today, on sunny beaches lie the beautiful and bold,
With their tan lotions now close by, as their skins turn to gold.
It's like those Baywatch beauty shows, with Pamela and co.
Beneath the yellow sun that glows, as she runs to and fro.
A billion men have seen her smile, that's why they're smiling, too,
They love her grace, they love her style, but then, that's nothing new.
Each sunrise grants true happiness as soon as it arrives,
It's here with sunshine meant to bless, while sunlight still survives.

Some men would greet the rising sun as if their Lord and God,
As if it were their only one, and that, to me, seemed odd.
But still they worshipped loud and proud, perhaps so they'd be blessed,
They even knelt with their heads bowed, as if the sun's impressed.
I love the sunshine when it starts and Summer's getting hot,
Each year, as April soon departs, and May brings all it's got.
Then each June wedding turns the tide with flowers here and there,
A hundred photos of each bride with rice thrown everywhere.

In countries where it's very hot, some creatures like the shade,
And when they hide, they're hard to spot, so they feel less afraid.
Some creatures burrow underground, while others swim in streams,
And even more don't make a sound as they seek longer dreams.
The early bird begins to sing to herald once again,
Not knowing what each day may bring, yet hopeful even then.
God's creatures merely greet each day, in search of things to eat,
Content as sunshine leads the way, before the day's complete.
