Sundowners (The Curse Of Dementia) Poem by Mervyn Graham

Sundowners (The Curse Of Dementia)

In the waning light of afternoon's retreat,
A mind adrift, in shadows bittersweet.
Sundowners come with the fading sun's kiss,
Unraveling threads of time, a gentle abyss.

Confusion stirs, like leaves in evening's breeze,
In minds where memories dance and tease.
The clock's soft ticks lose their steady beat,
As twilight weaves its mystic sheet.

Within the folds of dusk's embrace,
Restlessness takes its silent place.
A journey through the dimming haze,
Where night and day, in whispers, graze.

Theories float like feathers in the air,
Seeking reasons for this twilight affair.
Changes in the brain, or fatigue's cruel call,
As daylight wanes, and shadows fall.

Yet amidst the confusion, there's a guiding light,
A beacon of hope in the encroaching night.
With patience and love, we navigate the way,
Through sundown's haze, to the break of day.

In the quiet moments of evening's hush,
We find solace in the gentle touch.
With routines set and care bestowed,
We ease the path along this relentless road.

For in the heart of twilight's embrace,
There's beauty in the gentle grace.
And though the journey may be long,
Love's steadfast light remains ever strong.

Little known fact about dementia is that as the sun goes down the systems get worse.
